Getting into the Cranbrook Academy of Art is no easy feat. The data shows that it is exceptionally difficult to gain admission, with applicants needing to aim for a 3 or 15 on the SAT and scores around -. It's not just about numbers and data though; you'll need to stand out from the crowd in other ways too. At Cranbrook, theory serves as a conceptual tool, but what really matters is the connection between idea and form.
This principle forms a common dialogue between disciplines, making Cranbrook a truly unique place. The Gilbert Fellowship is designed to create a more diverse and equitable community by eliminating financial barriers to graduate education in art and design and bringing voices to Cranbrook that represent the world we live in. In addition to tuition support, Gilbert fellows will be part of a support cohort that will have the opportunity to collaborate, participate and participate in special projects and initiatives in Detroit and surrounding communities. To be considered for admission, applicants must have completed a bachelor's degree from an accredited educational institution.
Those with a degree in a field other than the arts may be considered on an individual basis, based on a review of their portfolio and experience. International applicants must have obtained the equivalent of a U. S. bachelor's degree.
For those applying for the Master of Architecture program, they must have completed a bachelor's degree in architecture or its equivalent university degree from an accredited educational institution. Those applying for the Master of Fine Arts program will need to apply to one of eleven departments (2D Design, 3D Design, 4D Design, Ceramics, Fiber, Goldware, Painting, Photography, Print Media or Sculpture). Statements must be inserted as plain text in the Slideroom application and applicants should read the instructions carefully. There are no “right” or “wrong” answers; your answers provide important insight into your background, interests, influences, etc. In addition to submitting an unofficial transcript of your degree (or one that includes courses you have completed to date if your degree is still in progress), it is recommended that you provide unofficial transcripts of any other degree or program (master's degree, post-baccalaureate, certificate, classes) that you want to consider as part of the application review process. Letters of recommendation can be uploaded via a confidential link sent via email after submitting your request. You can log back in to view the status of your letters; if it is labeled “Requested” it means that the referee has not yet completed the online submission process.
