Aims
- To develop creative skills, through learning to use imagination and intuition when exploring and creating images and artefacts. Experiment with ideas, materials, tools and techniques.
- Active engage with the experience of working with a broad range of media, materials and techniques.
- to develop critical understanding through investigative, analytical, experimental, interpretive, practical, technical and expressive skills
- to develop knowledge and understanding of art, craft and design in contemporary societies and in other times and cultures
- The specification provides opportunities for candidates to gain:
- An interest in why art and design matters and be inspired, moved and changed.
- An understanding of art, craft and design processes.
Candidates will be entered for a specialist focused specification. The specialist focus is Fine Art. The candidates will need to demonstrate an expressive and personal response to a given task from 2 or more of the activities listed:
- Painting
- Drawing
- Printmaking
- Sculpture
- Lens-based imagery
- Other forms of 2-dimensional or 3-dimensional imagery

Coursework - Candidates need to produce a portfolio of work . This work should provide evidence of research, preparatory and developmental studies and their outcome(s).
Examination - requires candidates to produce a unit of work in response to a given starting point and to the four assessment objectives, with provision of up to six weeks for preparatory, research and developmental work with teacher guidance. Candidates will have up to ten hours in which to complete their response independently. Three hours must be consecutive. An examination paper with twelve starting points will provide the stimulus to be used as a brief, theme, context or problem.
